Mushroom picking
Mushroom picking is a popular activity in Slovenia, especially in the autumn months. Mushrooms are widespread in forests, meadows and other natural areas, and their collection is regulated by law – an individual may collect a maximum of 2 kg of mushrooms per day. Mushroom picking requires knowledge, as some edible species are very similar to poisonous ones, which can lead to serious poisoning. Protected mushroom species in Slovenia include the greater kukmak, the lesser knotted mushroom, the egg-shaped mushroom and the black truffle, the collection or destruction of which is prohibited. Only pick mushrooms that you are sure are edible. Misjudging mushrooms can cause severe and even fatal poisoning, so each picker is responsible for his or her own welfare.

Fishing on the river Kolpa
Fishing is a popular activity that combines relaxation in nature and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems. The Kočevje fishing district covers certain parts of the Čabranka and Kolpa rivers, where fishing is allowed under strict rules. Fishing regimes, such as catch-and-release or fly-fishing with certain techniques, are adapted to the conservation of fish species and the sustainable management of watercourses. Fishing is subject to a fishing licence, and rules depend on the species of fish, the method of fishing and the area. Fishing is only allowed if these rules are respected to ensure sustainable management of natural resources.
