Jelovicka Cave
Jelovička Cave was discovered in 1941. The entrance to the cave is located under a 20-metre vertical wall and opens at the beginning of a 330-metre-long torrent channel, which is very picturesque with large moss-covered stone blocks. The Kotnice stream flows out of the Jelovička Cave and after about 300 metres empties into the Kolpa River. The cave is 184 metres long and 30 metres wide. The cave descends for a while at the beginning and then slowly rises until the end. The cave is accessed by a clay slope, along which runs a stream that originates in the cave and flows underground to the Kolpa River. During heavy rains, an underground stream gushes out of the cave, flooding the cave almost to the ceiling. The cave is easily accessible to visitors, but entry is only allowed with a cave guide. The Jelovička Cave is the source of the Kotnice stream, which after about 300 metres empties into the Kolpa River. In dry weather, only one stream is visible, but when it rains, all three come into view, flowing picturesquely over moss-covered rocks under three bridges (the tri-bridge) near the village of Gorenja Žaga, before emptying together into the Kolpa.
